LIFE IN 2014 – By Jole Aron

LIFE IN 2014 – By Jole Aron from Jole Aron on Vimeo.

Here’s my annual “Life in [year]” short film. Each year I compile all the video I shoot (that I’m allowed to use) and make it awesome! I have more and more video to go through each year from vlogs, work, friends, family, etc. I enjoy editing these little short films.

Enjoy a glimpse into my Life in 2014. 🙂
Eat. Design. Sleep. Repeat.

Location/Event descriptions in this video…
I wasn’t really looking to list all the locations and events seen in this video, but here I’ll give it a try. (In no particular order.) (Charleston, Beckley, Lewisburg, Fayetteville, Hinton, and Sandstone of West Virginia), Festivall, Bridge Day, Rail Road Days, PoorFarm Fest, Badlands Bluegrass, Lost World Caverns, Beartown State Park, Polar Plunge, Chilli Night, Autumn Blair – Live on the Levee and much more… Also to note the video clips in this video are (mostly) in chronological order.

Notes for 2014…
This year went by so fast, I can’t believe how time marches on whether you’re ready for it or not. I’m thankful for everything I’m involved in with work, and thankful for all my friends, family and coworkers that have made my life so fun and full of happiness. Sounds sappy? Yeah, that’s because it’s true. Real life can be sappy guys. 😛

About my work…
This is my vlog channel, check out my other channels for professional work. If you’d like to see some of the things I work on, businesses, etc. — Check out my Marketing business Aronfield Studios here: and here: | And for Spotlight WV and Taste WV Magazine info, see here: , here: and here:

Memories living on…
I started out making this for myself, and I will keep creating them as I feel the need for it. I’m glad so many people have given me such positive feedback from previous videos. It’s weird to look back and your whole year and see it in such a fast glimpse. What a stranger may see as a quick image, I see a whole day of events I almost forgot about.

My New Year’s Resolutions…
Watch more movies, diet and vlog more! (My Diet Vlog is already underway.)

I believe “Life in 2012” was my favorite one so far, other than this one. I try and find music that I like and that fits for the pace of the film I want. I usually spend more time finding the right music than editing the video, ha!

Cameras used: Casio Digital Camera, Canon 7D, Dash Cam. I believe that’s it…

I wasn’t sure if I would have enough video to make this “LIFE IN THE YEAR” video for 2013, I was wrong. I had more than enough. So many random clips, here you’ll see clips from my advertising business (behind the scenes), traveling throughout West Virginia footage, holiday events, also a few clips of friends and family. Lots of randomness seems to be my theme for these videos, mainly for trying to cram a year’s worth of video into 3-4 minutes.

I woke up this morning and realized it was that time of year where I make this video, usually due to it being a holiday and having/making free time. This video took me around 4-5 hours to compile, edit, render and upload the video today. (Had to go through about 4 hours worth of footage.) I think 2 and a half of those hours were spent looking for the right song to use, ha.

I enjoy making these videos even if it’s only for myself to enjoy for years to come. Some split second images may mean nothing to the average viewer, but to me I have tons of memories and some laughs tied to each clip. Enjoy! 🙂

This year has been good to me, in business and life in general. I’ve very thankful for everything and everyone I have in my life. Here’s to another year, Cheers!

Most all of the clips are from the Southern West Virginia area. Here are a few to be clear, Charleston, Beckley, Beaver, Hinton, Fayetteville and a few more. I didn’t go on vacation this year… at least I don’t think I did… I’ve been working alot and I stay pretty busy for the most part. But time for yourself is important. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy…

Events within this video are, FestivALL, local carnivals, BBQ festival, ShockaCon, Kenova Pumpkin House and I forget what else…

If you haven’t seen my video “Life in 2012”, check it out if your a fan of this one. Random-Randy-McRandom-Ness.

Affleck as the new Batman – Marketing Genius

Sure it may seem a bit of a shock to chose Ben Affleck to be the new Batman for the upcoming movie Batman vs. Superman (2015), but let’s think about this objectively. For the many people who aren’t film buffs you may not be aware of the idea that Ben Affleck was eyed to direct an upcoming Justice League film, but it was scratched for the time being to build up the characters like Marvel has done so well for the Avengers. This could have been one reason he was even being consider in the fist place. Right place, right time.

Let’s take a step back to go over what this blog is about. After reading joke after joke about Daredevil (2003) and Gigli (2003), I decided to share my positive views on Affleck stepping in the Batman boots. You have to realize Ben has come along way and he deserves a bit more credit, but his flops seem to keep haunting him along his career. Maybe 2003 was just not his year. As an actor, Affleck clearly has nothing more to prove, just watch The Town (2010) or Argo (2012), but perhaps he’s proven himself to other crowds, and now that he’s getting back into the Superhero sphere he’ll be proving himself all over again, which I think he’ll do quite well considering DC is using this as a platform to compete with the Avengers 2 and Star Wars VII.

If you think about it, it was a genius marketing ploy. “Let’s think, who could pass for Batman in the biggest DC film hit of all time and be controversy enough to makes the fans and everyday film goers go nuts, good or bad, vlog, blog and make a million memes and fill up the Reddit boards.”  Well they did just that and more, not only was Ben Affleck a world trending topic on Twitter, but there were several hastags relating to Affleck as Batman also trending world wide. Ben Affleck has dominated the internet, well for this Friday at least. Kudos.

And now for Affleck funnies.

Now don’t get me wrong I enjoy a good joke, you just have to wonder how many people are serious about hating on Affleck or they’re just goofing to add to the mix. Speaking, I made this video below and all in good fun. I can’t wait to see where he takes the character. Zack Snyder will do just the film justice with Affleck as Batman, I know it will be top notch.

LIFE IN 2012 – Video By Jole Aron

“2012 has been a great year, this video sums it up. So much going on, staying focused on my business goals but always making time to have fun. I tried to compress the year as much as possible, and 6 minutes was the minimum. Enjoy the randomness that is my life and have a Happy New Year!” – Jole Aron

Magazine Milestone – Spotlight WV – October 2012

I’ve been working on a website promoting my home state of West Virginia for a few years now online. Originally, I created a few social media accounts to get it started and then I realized I had a knack for it, the word spread fast. Now this originally was a part-time blog, but it’s taken new heights this past year and as of this month (October), I released the first official issue of the Magazine. Although I designed the magazine, front and back, there are quite a few people involved that helped make it happen. A modest list of writers, proofreaders, artists, photographers and marketing gurus helped me pave the way to having a physical Magazine.  It’s called Spotlight WV, it’s an Arts and Culture Magazine. My intent is for it to be an online magazine until I’m ready to take it to print in stores. However, the site I signed up with to let people view the Magazine online, also offers an option to buy a copy, which is what I did. I’m excited to see where this is going. Thanks Everyone.

Tribute to Andy Griffith

For generations he entertained millions of families in front of their Television sets, sending positive messages while making us laugh at the same time. As a child I watched what seemed like every episode of the Andy Griffith Show, yet when I sit down to watch it now, it seems like it’s the first time seeing it all over again.

I was a fan of his show Matlock as well, bringing his old fashioned, witty humor to crime scenes, murder mysteries and the court room. I was like most the new generations, having only seen Andy Griffith as a Sheriff and a Lawyer. I’m very interested in going back and checking out his earlier work, and after seeing his impressive list on IMDB you can’t deny he had a wonderful carrier, full of great Films, TV and Theatre.

I’m thankful that I was brought up watching a show like this, of course I was exposed to just about everything a kid was allowed to watch, but Andy always made you feel at home and you could really learn a thing or two, like it or not TV shapes millions of households. Kids pickup of how people treat one another by watching TV, It’s so awful to think what’s on TV now compared to a couple generations ago. TV Land it is!

I’m going to include a few video clips, some rare ones, hopefully they’ll be up for a while, Enjoy!

Deadly Derecho in West Virginia – 11 Days without Power

June 29th, 2012. I just so happen to be on the internet when I read of the storm coming though Ohio, reading tweets live as it came closer toward West Virginia. I knew from all the attention this storm was starting to get that it wasn’t going to be a normal June thunderstorm. As the storm grew closer I shut down my computer, assuming the power may be out for a short while, but I had no idea this storm’s damage would be so intense that we’d be without power for 11 Days, nor did we know it wasn’t the end of these kind of storms.

I ran downstairs as the wind starting hitting the house and headed outside to pull in the plants so they wouldn’t get blown away; that was a mistake, because the storm was already here and you could hardly hear it. I went to open the screen door and it felt as if it were stuck and I pushed, it felt like 20+ pounds of pressure. At this point I didn’t understand, because there was no rain or sound at all. Once I took a step out the door I could feel being pulled as if I were in the ocean and I’m being pulled by an undertow, I then looked up and saw the sky was a blur of branches, tree limbs and debris, but oddly enough the storm had no sound whatsoever. So naturally I freaked out thinking it was a tornado, (better safe than sorry). I remember shouting, “it’s a tornado, it’s a tornado” as we headed for the basement.

The storm lasted about 20-30 minutes, the wind was first, then the hard rain and hail. I walked upstairs and saw out the window a sparking telephone pole in the yard, still live and sparking very bright lights like fireworks. I called 911 to tell them about the live wire in the road and the cell towers were down…. hearing “sorry your number cannot be completed as dialed” when you dial 911 is a scary feeling; what if I or someone else was in serious need. It’s an awful feeling, then you realize how much you take for granted having 911 being there at your fingertips when you dial 911 and get nothing over and over.

I walked outside, as did the rest of the neighborhood to check out the damage. Half of the area had power, but our side was out in a number of ways. They were trees hitting lines everywhere, trees in homes, on businesses, trying to imagine the damage at this point seemed almost impossible.

On the lighter side of things, I did notice that the apple tree that fell on our house didn’t smash the Gnome I had under it, in fact it just missed it; lucky Gnome, he must have had it all figured out. I’ll include the photo on here with a close up. The neighbors were sad to see the apple tree go, it apparently had been around for generations.

I called my family in Beckley as the storm was heading their way to warn them; it knocked trees down there, not as bad as Charleston, but it knocked thousands of people’s power out for days as well. It was getting dark and the video clips I took with my photo camera were hard to see without light, so just before I went inside I noticed the brightest pinkish-red sky that you ever saw and I remembered the saying “Pink sky at night, sailors delight,” which if it was right means the day will be clear tomorrow.

Day 1. No Power. Woke up bright and early on my own, due to the bright sunrise in my eyes. I took my camera out and walked the neighborhood to see the damage, on this page I’ve included a few of those photos. Roads were blocked, not a sound was being made anywhere. Almost felt apocalyptic. Slowly I started seeing others come outside and we talked as if we knew each other about the storm. You wouldn’t imagine how many people I made friends with in my own area that I didn’t know before this storm. The heat started getting to you about 2pm and we thought we’d find a hotel, but every place was booked from 70 miles north and 70 miles south of us, which was quite scary. No hotels vacant in WV, east KY, OHIO… I can keep going and it’s going to be 100 degrees tomorrow. It’s going to be hard for a few days folks. #Storm

We did get to watch FOX and see the Governor of West Virginia’s interview about the storm damage, (which I included in the film below). Time to tough it out and go back home to the heat. The power would happen to go out at just the rare time that it was 101 degree heat, a heat wave, really? I figured this is what we get for having such a light Winter, Mother Nature payback.

Update: 6/30/2012, 11:30 p.m.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin announced tonight that he has declared a state of emergency for the entire state of West Virginia in the wake of this evening’s powerful storms. The storms have left an estimated 500,000 people without power as a result of outages in at least 27 counties. The statewide emergency declaration will allow all government resources to be devoted immediately to helping those in need and restoring power as soon as possible.

“The damage from today’s storms is widespread and in many places severe,” said Gov. Tomblin. “With temperatures near 100 degrees expected this weekend, it’s critical that we get people’s power back on as soon as possible. We’re committing 100% of our state’s resources for as long as we need to get this cleaned up.”

West Virginians without power should stay as cool as possible and drink plenty of water. The elderly and others susceptible to extreme heat should consider moving to an air conditioned location or seeking help if they feel that their health is threatened. All West Virginians are urged to check in on friends and neighbors who may need assistance, and to call 911 in the event of emergency. –

Day 2. No Power. I’ve never seen such madness, people fighting over food, ice, gas, generators . . . well anything people need, they’re going nuts to get it. Even thought there isn’t a gas shortage, gas is sold out everywhere and lines are hours long. The stories I’ve heard about people waiting for hours to get turned away after selling out is just too much. If you don’t absolutely NEED anything, you should just stay home and calm down people. Talk about taking everyone out of their comfort zone. All this and it’s not even noon yet, it’s going to be a long week.

Cleaned liked like crazy, felt like I was Amish. Our water started tasting like bleach today, not sure what to think, I would guess its them adding more chemicals to kill bacteria. I didn’t drink it.

Today was the day I realized how thankful I am for what I do have, tried get over the heat and enjoy the day with my sweetie. Another storm came through, but it was off in the distance, only saw lighting for hours.

RT @BreakingNews: Update: 3 million across 9 US states without power after storms – @CNN

Day 3. No Power. The roads are still closed, looks like the storm just happened. Hoping to hurry up and get this all behind us, at least we have a home to sleep in and running water. I heard several people had their water turned off, some type of contamination issues.

The heels of my feet look and feel awful, this gross photo (sorry folks) is what happens while walking miles in the extreme heat, who knew. I leaned the storm was called a “Derecho,” meaning it was a land hurricane, which supposedly is a pretty rare thing. The mixture of extreme heat and high humidity makes for an awful storm or I should say storms . . .

My only link to the outside world was my cell phone, and what limited access it has on the net. I learned the movie theater got power and we were one of only a few people there, went to see TED. Pretty good movie, but it does have some raunchy humor.

Enjoyed the breeze during the full moon with all the windows open and everything silent was very peaceful.

Random thoughts before bed: I was wondering, if there was this much chaos from a wind storm, still without power on Day 4, then I’m not looking forward to the crazies on Dec 21st, 2012. I tweeted a lot during this outage, mostly to help me remember this story.

At this moment, I realized how much I automatically want to sleep at sundown and up at sunrise, pretty funny to me because I usually have a hard time sleeping and don’t get to sleep until 4-5am but I slept like a baby, except it was hot.

Day 4. No Power.  Boiling in the unbearable heat in the house while I watch the cleanup crew hack away at the trees blocking the road. They’ve called in help from other states to help out with several things, including debris. Happy to be one step closer to having power again.

We went last night and got some ICE at Krogers. That’s the secret, I guess I can say it now. In the morning and middle of the day, people were almost fighting over the ICE, not just at Krogers, almost anywhere that sold it. We weren’t looking for ICE that night but found a truck comes in at night with ICE and there was hardly anyone there to know until morning. Score. So we bought a small cooler and made a mini fridge for drinks.

On the way home we saw fireworks in the sky and didn’t realize Charleston was having fireworks on July 3rd instead of the 4th, which is fine but I just didn’t know. So I didn’t get the best spot, but I did manage to film a few clips of the fireworks and lighting going on at the same time, that was a first for me. I thought have thought it was a  no go for safety concerns, but I guess because it had been a rough couple days they thought, screw it. Check out the video below.

Day 5. No Power. After helping several times outside, working in the brush in the road, I now have a bad case of poison ivy on my left leg. Woke up in the middle of the night from the heat and itchy-ness and stomped on my glasses, pretty much demolished them, what a way to start out the day. You have to laugh to keep from crying, haha. Oh yeah, Happy Independence Day.

Determined to have a good 4th of July during this 104 degree weather today, I decided I wanted to go see the new Spider-Man movie that just came out today. So I broke out the super glue and McGyvered the metal strip from a bread bag tie to put my glasses back together again to go see a movie. Keep in mind a large percentage of stores are still without power including Wal-Mart, so it’s useless to try and get them repaired or buy new ones while there are bigger problems in the air. So I got them fixed up and enjoyed a movie in air conditioning, which was a nice break from the heat. And on a movie note: it was better than expected. It’s worth going to the movies to see for sure. I’ve seen most of everything out already at the theater, so Spider-Man came out just in time; in other words I would have just gone to see a movie I’d already seen just to get out of the heat. Prometheus was good, I’d see that twice.

At night it was so hot, so humid that I had to get creative to cool the puppy. I took cold water and wet a towel and put it on the bed for the puppy to get cool and rest; it worked perfectly, she was in heaven.

My camera battery was starting to go dead, so I couldn’t get many photos after today. Ugh.

Day 6. No Power. “Bad storm is coming through AGAIN, hoping it’s not bad, people are loosing it as it is already.” The storm hit, lots of wind and lots of rain this time around. A large limb fell onto the street where it was recently just cleared and a stranger with a chainsaw just hacked away at the limb and cleared the debris from the road, DURING THE STORM, but either way, thanks stranger, what a nice guy.

The storm wasn’t as bad as the last time around, but Beckley got it pretty bad this time. I kept hearing rumors of a funnel cloud touching down but I never saw any photos. I bought a cell charger (iGO) that uses AA batteries the other day. If I didn’t have that, I wouldn’t have had any communication with the world. I feel horrible for everyone who had it even worse than me, I’m even close to civilization, as apposed to so many people who were out in the middle of nowhere without power or even water as well.

After the storm, we went to Target, just to get into some air conditioning; the store had just re-opened and it was a mad house. Everything was empty and people where everywhere. We went to the frozen section and saw the “power is out signs”, which I got a photo of it to remind me of the trip. It had a very eerie feeling to it, most stores did, very surreal and depressing, panic filled isles, things weren’t back to normal yet.

Day 7. No Power. Woke up hearing the power company near our street, which was an amazing feeling, but it wasn’t going to be that easy. Hours went by and I knew part of the neighborhood must have gotten power, because you could hear the alarms going off in peoples homes. As the Power company packed up (with my power still off), I started to walk down to ask them when I noticed a nearby tree smoking, sparking, and catching fire at the top of a tree the line was laying on. I went to the workers and told them. Two guys came up to my side yard to see what I was talking about, one told me it was nothing and it would stop… and the other guy looked on in awe, but you could tell the guy talking to me was his boss. (They were from out of state, can’t remember where.) So whatever, I thought. They drove off, I still had no power, then you hear more sparking and flames and I thought well, they told me it was ok, so I stepped in to grab my camera. Then you hear a loud BANG, sounded like thunder and a gunshot together, so I ran outside and all was silent again, so I figured it blew a fuse or whatever. I called and a fire truck came out to check if it was ok, then saw the power was knocked out again, so that was that.

As I was watching the police roam the streets, I was reading about all the robberies from the people leaving their homes in the area. That didn’t help anything, the fact that it was happening, or that I knew about it. Things were stressful enough, but I just knew to hang in there, it would all be over before I knew it. Like many others in the area we were eyes-wide and up at all hours of the night listening and watching like a hawk.

So hours went by and hope was restored, the power company was back in the area. These guys were from Texas and they were super friendly and this time, they finally got over to my street. So after day and days of waiting, we had power again. The photo above is the guys from Texas in our yard. Thank you. Went out and celebrated for getting power back, had a nice dinner with my sweetie.

Day 8. Waking up to Power. Things still weren’t all the way back to normal yet. It was so wonderful to have AC again, and to have a cold drink waiting for you in the fridge. The things we take for granted is astounding to say the least. People must take some more time to be thankful for all they have, even the little things.

After all those days without power I had no idea what to do once I had it. The internet wasn’t back on yet, but I wasn’t complaining, I’m just glad to not to be pouring sweat just sitting in my own house. So what did I do? I watched DVDs I had forgotten about, played games I hadn’t played in a while. So I played “Plants vs. Zombies” and watched Beverly Hills Cop 1, 2, and 3, back to back ROFL. Then went to see the movie Savages, which was a crazy movie.

Along the way I read about an upcoming storm, supposed to be as bad as before, well crap. So I decided to gamble and go get ICE, more batteries, food, and gas while it’s easy to get. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

Day 9. Power was good while it lasted. The second BIG storm hit the area, with more rain than before, and just as much wind, but I thought there wasn’t much left to fall. I was wrong, there was more to fall, a huge branch fell onto the road bringing the power lines with it, this time around knocking power out in a much bigger area. I went out to see the damage, and took a walk around the neighborhood again and it looked like the Derecho all over again, with huge trees knocked down all over, onto more homes and businesses.

It was worse this time around because all of MacCorkle Ave was without power, the street lights, and every home and business as far as you could see were out. Then the sun set and things were worse, we thought it would be a good idea to drive down a few blocks and see the damage and possibly get a bite to eat, which was the wrong thing to do. People weren’t stopping at the intersections at all, in fact people were flooring it though, we almost got T-Boned a number of times by driving safe. It was horrific and quite odd to see a main street with no lights as far as you could see, just chaos. I don’t care to see that ever again.

Day 10. No Power. Walking around looking at the new damage again. More photos below and video as well. In times like these you have to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. The positive news is that on AEP’s website it shows our area is down significantly in outages, so it should be no time at all. Even though we were out of power at the moment, we at least had a break from the heat for about 36 hours or so.  #Humbled

Day 11. Power. 6 Power trucks and 6 Suddenlink trucks can’t be wrong. Spent most of the day writing scripts and reading in front of a mini battery-powered fan. Everything is back up and running now, just time to try and get things back to normal and upload some photos and videos.

In the video below you’ll see the storms, the damage and more of this story. Most everything should be posted on this page somewhere, enjoy. Hope you’ve enjoyed my Derecho experience, thanks for reading. Remember, be thankful everyday for all that you have, because you’ll never know when it could be taken away from you.

Out of 11 Days, we had around 36 hours worth of power. This video is of the storm and aftermath for 11 Days in Kanawha City. Temperatures reached up to 104 degrees during the heat wave. We were in the city and it took 7 days to get power, I can’t imagine how others felt out of town. I’m thankful for getting through it all in one piece. I may have got poison ivy and broken my glasses, but that’s nothing compared to some of the damage I’ve seen. Hope all is well. PS: If you go watch this on the YouTube page, it will have more info to read and shortcuts to events in the video and links to other Derecho videos in West Virginia.

June 29 — Severe Summer Storm — West Virginia
Update: 10:00 AM, 7/13/2012
Appalachian Power is dealing with significant weather-related outages across its West Virginia and Virginia service areas. STORM WEATHER PERSPECTIVE Friday night’s storm was part of a massive straight line wind storm that traveled close to 700 miles in 10 hours, devastating 10 states and leaving more than 4.3 million customers without electric service throughout the United States. Company and state officials are characterizing the storm as similar to or even greater than a hurricane, but without advance warning. The storm produced winds in excess of 75 miles-per-hour and heavy rain across a large portion of Appalachian Power’s service territory. – AEP

A land hurricane known as a “Derecho” hit several states on the east coast. This is video from my photo camera, documenting the damage and power outages during the heat wave in Kanawha City, Charleston, WV. This video shows some of the first storm in action, damage in the area and video of the second big storm around a week later. This video was taken over a duration of 11 days. Thanks to everyone that helped out in this storm to get things back to normal.

The storm started Friday, June 29th 2012 which left thousands of people without power in West Virginia. It knocked several big trees over, snapping the tops off and even pulling them up from the roots. (06:34) Temperatures rose to a high of 104 degrees. Many people rushed to get gas, food, ice, and other necessities. There were only a few places to find a hot meal anywhere, hotels were sold out almost state-wide, and surrounding states had similar problems. Several workers, neighbors, and helpful strangers helped get us back on track. We saw lots of out of state workers sent to our area to help out AEP, which was great.

The second BIG storm hit Tuesday, July 10th, (08:25) which was only a day or so after we regained power from the previous storm over a week ago. The power was knocked out again, but this time help was already in the area. The whole ordeal lasted 11 Days, which is what you’ll see in this video. Thanks for watching.

Hand Drawn T-Shirt Design – MUSIC KEEPS ME GOING

This isn’t something I’m used to doing at all, but I was reading a few articles that made me interested in trying it out for myself, using “Magic Markers.” Yes, Sharpies, that’s right, and it hasn’t bled yet. (Must Dry First) Here’s a photo of my progress and finished work for a test shirt for ROKPAD Entertainment.

I used an old Calvin Cline dress shirt that I’ve never worn to test it out, but it turned out so much better that I had thought. Although time consuming, (this simple design took me a couple hours from setup to finish) I like the end result. Not something I will be going into business with, but it was a fun art project that was rewarding once finished.

Try it out.

This is part of the Techno Bond Project, which is a series of re-cut Bond movie trailers to modern Techno or Dubstep styles of music. If you’d like to know more about the Techno Bond Project, please watch the Teaser, which has more information about the genres, artists and remixes used in the series.

Some edits were made to the audio tracks, but I don’t remix any of the songs myself, I’m only choosing my favorite songs and edit the trailers. Enjoy!

My Designs Featured on the Team COCO website!

I entered a Photoshop contest for Conan O’Brien’s show and they chose two of my designs! A silly thing to be excited about, but I’m a fan of Conan since way back. Heres a snapshot of my photo on the Team Coco website. Awesome, haha. You can view my past post here (View Posters) to see the info about the contest and my photos submitted.

My Designs on the Team Coco Slideshow are #2 and #16 out of 23!

TEAM COCO: The St. Paddy’s Day Leprekong Photoshop Contest

HAHA, I love contests like this…

Here are my contributions to Leprekong.

TEAM COCO Leprekong Photoshop Contest

Leprekong The Movie

Leprekong gets lots in Snooki's hair

(Below is from the Team Coco site)

St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner, which means the tiny, mighty Leprekong will be on the loose, celebrating. That little Guiness-drinking beast might best known as a crappy Spider-Man villain, but on St. Paddy’s Day, he’s a party animal. We want you to use your Photoshop skills to show us what this drunken monkey has been up to. Interested? Great. Here’s how you can take part.

  1. Download this image of Leprekong.
  2. Work your Photoshop magic to show us what the little scamp has been up to.
  3. Once you’ve finished your masterpiece, “Like” Team Coco on Facebook and post it on our wall

Pretty simple, right? So do your thing, and we’ll feature our favorite entries right here on the site. Until then, happy St. Paddy’s Day and long live Leprekong!

KONY 2012

If you don’t already know about this, then you must watch this video, it’s 30 minutes that can change the world.

Daylight Savings Time Today. It’s Time to Blog (Business & Personal)

To update you on life, I’m doing well and staying busy as usual. This past year (2011) I’ve stayed indoors more that I usually do, so I’ve been brushing up on new marketing techniques, web design, video production, motion graphics and graphic design. Oh and I’ve been spending some time blogging on Men’s Room Magazine, posting new music on Rokpad and a West Virginia Online Magazine as well. I’m going to list a few things here in detail because I’m so scatterbrained and I need to organize my thoughts into categories. =P

Web Development + Graphic Design + SEO + Video Production + Visual Effects + Motion Graphics + Social Media + Blogging = My Life.
At least I didn’t have to do that much PC repair last year… (I’ve been hiding, haha)

I’ve taken on a large number of websites in the past year (which is a great thing) but I’m racking my brain and straining my eyes by staying on the computer too long. I’m usually out doing sales for my business but this year it’s been mostly done from home and through referral work. I enjoy my work, and I’m thankful to be doing what I enjoy. I’m currently managing over 150 websites, not all of them are clients, 75% of them are clients, the other 25% are my businesses, side projects and hobbies. This year I’m going to be focused on print media and video production more and I’ll be having some assistance with web projects. I have a few close friends that help me here and there on projects, from web, video, design and marketing, but I’ll be hiring my first official part-time/full-time employee soon.

I recently had a competitor go out of business, which gave me some new clients, but made me rethink how I manage some of my client content online. They were all struggling to obtain their original web domain name and for some it was lost for good. (expired domain, too pricey to buy back now) In these cases, nobody wins, a business goes out of business and their clients suffer from their mistakes of mismanaging their content. FORTUNATELY, I was able to obtain control of some of the clients original domain names (via who-is search and rescue…) and even had a way to see what their site looked like to be able re-build their website. (Thanks Wayback Machine) So that was pretty exciting for me to be able to help out some of the local businesses. I enjoyed going the extra mile.

An update on Rokpad, I had originally started it to be Magazine, (locally here in WV, which wasn’t the best idea seeing that I may not be going after the right crowd). I had even began compiling a videos I had shot of local musician’s and I would showcase them on the DVD that would be for free at local stores. It wasn’t a bad idea, but I think Rokpad can be developed into something bigger if I put more effort into it. As for local music, I did launch another site for local musicians, which is doing well and I’m happy with, but with Rokpad, I completely re-designed and it will showcase indie artists from all around the world, focusing on featuring new artists and sharing music videos. The online magazine “Rokpad Entertainment” will also offer Artists services, from music videos, flier designs, to Electronic Press Kits. So I’m excited to see what it’s going to develop into as the months go by.

SEO MAGIC – GETTING ON TOP & STAYING ON TOP (two completely different things)

Most people into SEO have no idea what’s going on and just when you think you’ve gotten it all under control, your highly underestimating how the internet works. There isn’t just one or two “TRICKS” that will get you on top of a competitive Google search listing, it takes hard work, sometime a full time job, or possibly a team of people working full time. WHAT THE CRAP!, you say? Now don’t get me wrong, if there is a small market for your business/website then perhaps your efforts could be cut into small fractions compared to popular search listings.

Crazy thing is, SEO techniques change or have variables considering everything going online, which could change drastically at any moment. For an example, you may have been trying to get to the top of a search engine for a specific keyword, then you finally made it, and you think all your hard work has paid off. Then BAM, theres a new ad campaign on TV or web, or new social media trending topic and your squashed like a bug, kicked off of your front page, being farther back than you were before. Well, don’t let this discourage you, it’s business and staying on top of the “next big thing” (new technologies) will help you keep your SEO status or stand a fighting chance. Well that’s enough of my ranting on about boring ol’ SEO. (PS: I was being vague for a reason, can’t give away all your chips if your still in the game)

Oh and if you’re wondering, the Bugs Bunny Ad is an old car Oil Ad, not sure of the era. I’ve always been a fan of Bugs Bunny, more cartoons should be more like the old Looney Toons episodes, instead of sucking like everything on TV. I do like Family guy, but I was talking about shows for kids, they shouldn’t be watching Mature junk on TV, messes them up. (oops, got off topic)

Like I said before, I’ve been indoors mostly for the past year so I haven’t had my hand into any new video productions, but I have been brushing up on Motion Graphics and I made a few videos for my businesses (you can find them here, My next few videos I’m preparing to produce are West Virginia related, which I’m excited to do, showcasing downtown Charleston, WV and I’ll be using some simple camera tricks that will look amazing with the Mountain views, so I can’t wait for that. I may be producing DVDs for this as well, not sure yet, the project is in it’s early stages at the moment. A far as the future, I’m really looking forward to producing more Commercials (comedy) and Music Videos in the next few months to come. So stay tuned and I’ll be posting them on here as well. On a side note, my heart is really into Film, but I’m tied down at the moment on so many projects (which I love, don’t get me wrong) but I’m seriously considering taking a break once I have a few more projects in order to work on my unfinished scripts. I’d love to direct, have partial in editing, and even have a cameo in a film. It’s on my TO DO list, I’ll make it happen. Oh and I do have a hand in an upcoming Film Festival, a first of it’s kind and hopefully it will be getting off the ground soon.

Well that’s about it…. No, I’m managing around 20 Facebook and Twitter Accounts and keeping them current is a full time job of it’s own. As a matter of fact, everything that I’ve listed above is a full time job of it’s own!!! No wonder I’ve had no life this past year. (and not to mention I gained 50 pounds in the process, thank god it’s almost summer now) I’m not going to rattle on about anything specific on this because it’s a matter of privacy, but I do spend quite some time on Facebook. Blah. It’s it weren’t for my business, I’d delete my account and never look back. (I’m lying, I can’t stay away for an hour without updating my status or stalking yours, haha)

No, seriously, I can’t even imagine what it used to be like without Social Media….Even before Facebook, Myspace was the dominate one, and before that I had real friends…. HA. I often watch Three’s Company (TV Show in the 70’s) and I try and remember a time where you weren’t on a digital leash, or a slave to social media. This took generations to happen though, if you were to say “hey, theres a new place where you can post everything your doing, thinking of doing or would like to do and share it with your friends and some people that you met, that one time in passing, but you’d sort of call them a friend, want to try?” They would probably punch you in the face, which is what I love about the “simpler times.”

Overall, yes, I’m more introverted, posting about things going on, reading about what others are doing, posting what I’m thinking…. It’s insanity.. so I have no time to actually DO ANYTHING! HAHAHA.. Sad, but so true. (Social Media Managers know what I’m talking about) To be clear, I learn a lot everyday and I work hard at every thing I put my mind to do, and that is all for this segment.

I’m a techie, designer, videographer, editor, then I step into the realm of being an entrepreneur, but what I am not amazing at is blogging, my grammar is horrible, I’m just not a pro at this, but I’m working on it. That’s why I’m writing more, this long @$$ blog for example. I just don’t write that much and I’m not in my comfort zone when writing to the public, but this is why I’m working on it. You can’t get any better at anything if you don’t step outside your comfort zone. So please excuse me if the wording, spelling and the overall blog sucks. I’m the learning process and I’m not ashamed to share it with the world. I’m great at a lot of things, I’m very blessed in many ways, but I suck at writing in general, no one is perfect, first step is admitting it, next step is taking control of the situation! HAHA (joking, but serious) I got A’s in School and in College (way back when) in Language,Writing, Creative Writing, etc, but I proofread like crazy. Writing for blogs seems like a different ballgame, but it really isn’t at all. I’m used to printing everything out and analyzing it on paper. (Which isn’t a bad idea for big projects, client work, etc) I’ve printed out several websites, designs, and articles I’ve written to take it with me and studied it. Practice makes perfect, nothing more true about that saying.

Mostly I’ve been working, I do try and get out when I can, have fun, etc. Me and sweetie go to the movies a few times a month and I try and stay current on what good / what sucks, but it’s difficult when there are so many films in and out of the theater in one month and that’s not including independent films that never make it that far. I’m a movie buff for sure, and I have way too many DVDs, and I haven’t even started on a BlueRay kick yet.. (I was hoping is was a phase, like HD DVDs.. etc) Some of my favorite movies where the Marvel flicks, Thor, Captain America and I can’t wait for THE AVENGERS! Also the new Spider-Man movie looks good, even though I didn’t think I’d be a fan because it hasn’t been that long since Toby played the Character.

If I don’t get to watch it in the theater, then I’m all about RedBox and the occasional Blockbuster… BTW, I like buying indie movies from Blockbuster after that have an overstock of DVDs… Great way to save a buck if your into film in general. So many of my nights are spent watching random movies while the puppy cuddles up to her Smurf stuffed animals. That puppy is so spoiled it’s ridiculous… I’m moving on..

I don’t play video games that much, I like the occasional Angry Birds, Plants vs. Zombies and we did just bought a Wii last Christmas. I really wanted to play the new version of GoldenEye, which I somehow thought it would be 10% as cool as the original Nintendo 64 version that I, myself and so many others were addicted to for so many years and I was HUGELY MISTAKEN. Oh well, good try guys, but keep trying please. We got a few other games including, a few Mario games, and Donkey Kong Returns which is fun. I was (still am) a huge fan of the old Donkey Kong Country games for SNES. I am very good at video games, I went out a legend in my own time, haha. I just decided I couldn’t accomplish my goals by playing so many games all the time, so I had to cut back for a while. (it’s a good thing)

I don’t really have any bad habits except for eating crappy foods and too much of it. I hardly ever drink anything else but Soda (Pepsi, Dr. Pepper or Cherry Coke).  Every day I try and catch Family Feud, dunno why I love that show so much, haha. My favorite channels are ABC, NBC, (FOX sometimes), History, Tru TV and TV Land. So to be clear, that’s Jimmy Kimmel, Jay Leno, Jimmy Fallon, SNL, Conan (not as much as I used to watch), Family Guy (I watch that on Hulu), Shark Tank (MY FAVORITE SHOW), Alcatraz (AWESOME SHOW – it replaced my LOST fix), Pawn Stars, Operation Repo, Lizard Lick Towing, The Exes (I think it got cancelled), and reruns of Home Improvement, Friends, The Nanny, Rosanne, Three’s Company, Full House and Family Matters. Also I’m a fan of The Voice and America’s Got Talent, and my Girlfriend makes me watch Dancing with the Stars, no seriously, I mean it. I’m not lying here..

So with my long list of shows that I watch on TV (surprising to me, because I didn’t list how many movies I watch), you’d think I’d have plenty of time to exercise during these shows. Writing this out makes me rethink some things, you see I’m not doing nothing during these shows, but not always the best thing either. I’m either writing, working on design/programming (watching hulu or movies), eating lunch during Family Feud and the DVR recording of last nights Jimmy Fallon, or I’m in bed trying to fall asleep for HOURS AND HOURS… Which is where I watch the most TV, just to be clear.

So anywho, I need to start (and follow through with) better habits, like exercising, eating better, keeping track of your productivity. I have to go that extra mile on the productivity, especially being your own boss. It’s not that easy to stay motivated 24/7, so you have to find creative ways to push yourself to be a better person everyday.

About Dieting, I’m thinking about doing a Vlog to help motivate myself to reach my goals because it’s easy to forget them unless you remind yourself. And seeing it in a video may just do the trick to keep myself on track. You can check up on me , heres my youtube account.

After reading this blog, if you somehow have gotten this far, you’ll should see a little glimpse of what I’m thinking about every second of every day (which is probably why I can’t sleep). If you are one of these people who just can’t turn off your brain and you struggle to sleep or crash from time to time from doing too much then first I applaud you and second, you need help! Ha. No, it’s good to keep busy, especially if your doing something you love or have an interest in doing, just make sure you come out ahead at the end of the line. If I could give any advice, it would be to know your goals and keep yourself in check. Keep your goals clear and insight, EVERYDAY. Keep pushing forward, NO MATTER WHAT THE RESISTANCE. And always remember to stop and smell the flowers, (for me this means, keep in mind why you have goals in the first place, be happy).

I’m out for now, you can reach me on my Facebook or Twitter. or

My Travels | Chicago, NYC and Vegas!

I’ve never really got to stay in Chicago for very long, always just traveling though, very busy, lots of sights, overall a nice place, I think it’s very different from anywhere else. It seems so odd how the communities and the city are side by side, yet neither cross over. It looked like some kind of illustration showing the housing and the businesses. It was very surreal.

I took the picture of the seagull there and it was by freak accident that it decided to take flight when I snapped the shot, that’s why I’ve always liked it. It was actually resting on the banister, and I was creeping my way up to it to get a good, up-close shot. It actually blown up on my wall.

The sears tower is a few blocks from where I’m standing here, and I kept forgetting to see the sites. It’s always the food with me, love to try new stuff. Especially the all “famous” food from the area, but I didn’t eat nearly enough, I’ll be back.

Went to NY early Arpil 2009, was kind of chilly at the time, and it was a lot to take in, but I loved it. You know what was first on my list when I went to NYC.. THE FOOOOOD! And I wish I could have ate more. lol. I had some amazing pizza and I can’t remember the name of the place, I was just in awe apparently. Oh the the kicker for me was having some Blueberry New York Cheesecake, oh yeah. My new favorite.

There are so many other places I’d like to see the next time I go back, I’ll need a list and a GPS, lol.

My Vegas was just too much to explain in such a small blog. I got to do a lot of the iconic things I’ve always thought of, silly things really, like having my picture taken in front of the Nevada sign, compare Ocean’s Elevens’ portaged Vegas experience. lol. One thing is for sure, Vegas was totally different from anything I’ve ever watched on video anywhere. An experience you must have once in your life, if not more. There was just way toooo much to do, so many things going on, and you have to watch or you’ll go broke before you get two blocks town the strip, lol. I stayed at the Golden Nugget. I had only seen random advertisements of them online, the full body ADs they bought from people on EBAY, very funny. So I didn’t know if it was a good hotel of not, but it was amazing hotel, very, very nice. I wanted to gamble, but I wanted to think about it for a bit, because I’ve never gambled in the big games, only watched from the comfort of my home, lol. So I actually watched and studied for a few nights before I placed any bets, then I played, did well, lost a little, did very well, then lost again, lol. But It did manage to pay for most of my meals and wot nots.

So I did try a lot of food here too, odd stuff to me, didn’t realize deep fried Oreos and Twinkies are such a common thing, but they are, lol. Not bad either, tastes good, you can just feel your arteries clogging, lol. And of course everything’s so expensive there, but whatever it is, if you walk a block you find it much cheaper, it’s almost comical.

Well the one day, I was heading back to the hotel from a long day of getting lost on the strip.. I ran into Turk from Scrubs (Donald Faison) while he was playing Blackjack, and I stopped him and shook his hand, wait I think it was more like, “Oooh Myyyy Gaaaa” (as I went to put my hand out to shake) I just didn’t know what to say, so I shook his hand, said nice to meet you then walked off and went up to my room, then I was like.. wait…. I DIDN’T TAKE A PICTURE?? WHAA, so I walk back down (ok, ran) back to the Casio floor and caught up with him, got my photo which was taken by his friend or girl friend, not sure. And I didn’t realize he was there for a shoot. The pilot for a CBS show called “The Odds”, which is a comedy, action, thrill or some sort. Any who, I got to hang out around the shoot and got to be an extra in the background (if they don’t cut that part.) All and all I had a great time, (except for the plane rides) and I’d love to go back. (via-road trip, jk)

Currently working on a music and art based magazine for unsigned artists to get more exposure.

Welcome, this is my blog.

Hey everyone, this is my personal blog where I post updates on the work I’m currently involved in so stay tuned. Currently I’ve been working closely with five companies, including two of my own, Aronfield Studios and Rokpad Entertainment on some big projects. Mostly I’ve been doing web design, programming, even some pc repair here and there. Oh and if you didn’t know already I’ve been a tech for over 10 years along with video and design, which is what I love, design and film. I’m always learning new things, love to teach others via leading by example and I enjoy taking on new challenges. I will post some of my work very soon.
Thanks for reading.

Becoming a Web Designer

Becoming a Web Designer

I’ve been involved in web design for some time now – you can see a sneak preview of my current project on this site. Web designing can be a great starting point getting into programming and digital design, so with this in mind, here are some top tips for getting involved in being a web designer yourself.

Web design can be an extremely broad area, and you are likely to want to specialize in one particular field as your knowledge develops. When you start out, however, it can be a good idea to get an idea of the basic right across the board. This can involve developing a basic understanding of aspects such as HTML and XML, which can be fundamental in initial website design.

Web design can be a field which is easier to understand in practice, rather than simply learning the theory, so the next thing you will want to do is to start designing basic website ideas. You might choose to start out with a simple site which focuses on one of your favorite hobbies, whether it be playing online games like Partypoker or supporting a particular charity. Choose a subject which you are genuinely interested in, to ensure your project will hold you attention, even if it takes some time to complete.

In order to further your skills, you may also want to take a web design course. You will be able to teach yourself a certain amount using theory books and online tutorials, but taking a course can also help you to gain official qualifications – which can be useful if you hope to become a full-time web designer. You will also have the chance to build up your portfolio, which can prove essential for gaining work at a later date.
